After a 2020 financial year that was a bit in degraded mode, with only 11 models subjected to Euro NCAP crash tests, the cruising speed resumed over the past year. With the gradual improvement of the health crisis, the panel of vehicles assessed by the European body has tripled. In 2022, even before the end of the first semester, there are already 13. first results of the current financial year had been published by EuroNCAP at the beginning of March.
This first round of evaluation concerned five models and only one of them missed the maximum mark. it’s about the BMW 2 Series Coupé, which is content with four stars. With standard safety equipment, the other vehicles all stalled five stars. In the detail of the ratings, the Volkswagen Polo et Taigo stand out in the field of adult protection (94%), while the Lexus NX is a benchmark in the areas of pedestrian protection (83%) and safety aids (91%). For its part, the Renault Mégane E-Techsecond in the election of the car of the year 2022, then had the best score in the field of child protection (88%).

Three months later, the models evaluated are now 13 in number. Among the eight vehicles subjected to the latest salvo of crash tests to date, four of them enjoy the maximum rating of five stars: the Kia EV6voted car of the year 2022, the Mercedes C-Class, the Volvo C40 Recharge and the Volkswagen Multivan. Moreover, the last three cities share the best score in the field of child protection (89%), just ahead of the electric Renault Mégane.
The other four models in question are credited with four stars, the DS 4, the Honda HR-V, the Opel Astra and the Peugeot 308. However, the DS 4 obtains five stars by using the security package, thus increasing its score in the field of security aids from 65% to 82%. In the overall ranking, in other words the cumulative scores in the four areas of assessment, the Lexus NX (91%, 87%, 83%, 91%) is the leader, ahead of the Mercedes C-Class (93%, 89%, 80%, 82%) and the Volvo C40 Recharge (92%, 89%, 70%, 89%).
