Seven years after its launch, the Mercedes-AMG GT will bow out next December. All versions are affected.
It will have been the dream of many enthusiasts since its launch in 2014, with its totally delirious look and especially its breathtaking performances. However, after more than seven years of loyal service, the Mercedes-AMG GT is about to retire. From December, no more copies of the German sports car will be produced, while the firm has already stopped taking orders for new customers. This news is obviously not without saddening us, especially since all versions will be concerned, the coupe as the roadster GTC. The four-door version should remain in the catalog, while nothing has been specified by the brand about it. Could it also disappear a little later, while Mercedes wants to clean up its range in order to reduce its various costs.
However, the absence of the Mercedes-AMG GT in the catalog should not leave a vacuum for too long, while the future Mercedes SL should soon take over. This has not yet been formalized but many spyshots have already been published on the web, suggesting the lines of the convertible. For now, the technical information is not known, but the first sounds of corridors evoke the presence of the four-cylinder 2.0-liter A45 S AMG, while the most efficient versions will carry a hybrid engine. This will then consist of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor, and will then develop a total power revolving around 800 horsepower. But a new question now arises: does Mercedes plan to decline its SL coupe, in order to fill the absence of the GT? For the moment, no answer has been given to this question, but we should know it quickly, since its revelation is expected in the coming months.
Several versions
Unveiled in 2014, the Mercedes-AMG GT was launched in concessions in the wake, before receiving a slight restyling during the year 2018, relating in particular to the light signature. As a reminder, the sports car is available in several versions and limited series, including the iconic GT R, GTC and GT S Roadster, not to mention the Black Series unveiled last July and claiming no less than 730 horsepower for 800 Nm of torque. The entire range is then equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, whose power therefore oscillates between 476 and 800 horsepower. All this cavalry is then sent to the rear wheels via a robotic gearbox with seven speeds and double clutch. The 0 to 100 km / h is achieved in 4 to 3.2 seconds depending on the version chosen. For information, the entry level is displayed from € 163,900, while the GT R version starts at € 180,701.
