With the new ES7, Nio brings to its range of SUVs the latest developments in its technologies that appeared on the ET5 and ET7 sedans. Better still, the other EC6, ES6 and ES8 SUVs also benefit from the improvements. Including for models already in circulation.
With its EC6, ES6 and ES8, we thought Nio’s SUV range was already complete. The Chinese manufacturer still manages to squeeze in an additional model, the ES7. With 4912 mm long, 1987 mm wide, 1720 mm high and a wheelbase of 2960 mm, it fits perfectly between the first two models of the brand. Overall, it looks like an extended-wheelbase ES6. Technically, it’s still a little more than that since the ES7 inaugurates a rear unit cast in one piece according to a technology similar to Megacasting from Tesla.
Its style is closer to the latest ET5 or ET7 in detail and its tailgate seems more inclined without however falling into the “SUV Coupé” syndrome. His Cx is 0.263.
The style update applies to the exterior, but also to the interior. The dashboard is in the same spirit as that of the ET7 with more discreet air vents, screens that seem more “floating” (12″8 for the central screen), a more refined central console… Some elements do not change not like the wizard NOMI which always sits at the top of the dashboard or the very comfortable front passenger seat with legrest. The seats are heated, ventilated and massaging at the front, and heated with adjustable backrest at the rear. The occupants of the rear seats benefit as a bonus from a good space thanks to the wheelbase which has been lengthened by 6 cm compared to the ES6.
Style and electronics
Compared to the EC6, ES6 or ES8, the ES7 does not only bring style. It also takes over the technological equipment of the ET5 and ET7. An evolution perfectly symbolized by the presence at the front of the pavilion of a lidar and 2 cameras. In total, the ES7 embeds 1 lidar, 7 cameras at 8 million pixels, 4 to 3 million, 5 radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Everything is driven by the in-house platform called Adam which embeds 4 Nvidia Orin X processors… The semi-autonomous driving system is offered here as a subscription for 680 RMB / month (97 €).
The multimedia part evolves, too, and not only on how to integrate the screens. The ES7 therefore takes over the platform called Alder with 5G connectivity and Qualcomm 8155 chipset. An evolution that Nio also passes on simultaneously to the EC6, ES6 and ES8. Better still, owners of models in circulation for less than a year will be able to upgrade their vehicle to obtain the latest platform. The cost of the evolution corresponds to the price increase of these 2022 models of the three SUVs.

The ES7 will however keep its offer for the moment Panocinema designed in partnership with Nreal. The multimedia system thus makes it possible to watch a film on a virtual 200-inch (508 cm) screen projected from 6 meters away. This will require wearing the virtual reality glasses associated with this option.
Important developments include the V2L which can power external devices with a power of up to 3.3 kW. Finally, this ES7 is now able to tow up to 2 tonnes. What follows the evolution of the world of leisure in China, but above all denotes a better adaptation to the needs of the European… or American markets.
Mechanically, the ES7 asserts itself as the most powerful of the Nio SUVs, with 480 kW. Or a 240 kW motor at the front and at the rear. The torque reaches 850 Nm. Of course, it is also the most efficient and Nio splits an announcement, quite rare from a Chinese manufacturer, of a 0 to 100 km / h in 3.9 s.
Always the battery exchange
Nio remains true to its concept of battery exchange and the BaaS (Battery as a Service) offer is highlighted with a lower price of 700,000 RMB (€10,000) for customers who choose this solution. The ES7 thus starts at 398,000 RMB (57,000 €) with the 75 kWh battery and 456,000 RMB (65,300 €) with the 100 kWh battery. The monthly cost will be 980 and 1680 RMB respectively (140 and 240 €/month). Knowing that it is always possible to switch from one to the other, temporarily or permanently, via the battery exchange service. The announced autonomy is 485 km with the small battery, 620 km with the large one. In CLTC cycle. The large 150 kWh semi-solid battery, already planned on the ET7 and the ET5, will be there, in theory by the end of the year. No price for this model, but a range of 850 km.

The exchange of battery allows the passage to the customers to obtain a small government subsidy with the purchase, until the end of the year. In theory, models over 300,000 RMB are excluded, except those compatible with a battery exchange system… The advantage will go up to 12,600 RMB on the ES7.
