This change follows the Azerbaijan Grand Prix mechanical breakage. The Ferrari then went up in smoke on the 21st lap of the race. The causes of this incident are still unknown. Nevertheless, the Monegasque has already used two of the three engines allocated for the season and three of the allowed turbos. In the event of another engine failure and or excessive wear, the latter will be obliged to collect additional penalties during the saison 2022.
The Scuderia Ferrari has not been idle to send the engines mounted in the two single-seaters to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Maranello, for an in-depth analysis. Mattia Binotto announced at the microphone of the Formula 1 having found short-term solutions, among other things for the Canadian Grand Prix.
