Updates for the 2022 Belgian Grand Prix have started. Indeed, the works affect many parts of the circuit and in particular in the bend of Raidillon with the destruction of its legendary chalet.
Fans of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit will be sad to learn that the Raidillon chalet is no longer part of the organizers’ plans. Moreover, this is not a new decision but a well thought out measure and finally implemented.
Start of the week, this house which overlooked the Raidillon bend was completely destroyed. Some photos were taken during the demolition and the biggest fans of this legendary circuit may well have a little pang in their hearts.

This is part of the changes scheduled for next year’s #BelgiumGP, which will include far more run off at this section of the circuit.# F1 pic.twitter.com/GDDFPzwI1Z

New projects
Instead, a large grandstand will be set up to welcome more and more fans to this essential F1 Grand Prix. But that’s not all. Indeed, the race organizers also plan to use part of the land gained to widen the aisle and push back the barriers.
In recent years, thehe various incidents experienced in this bend have prompted the competent authorities to rethink the safety of this bend. Moving back the barriers should therefore prevent the cars from bouncing back towards the track.
A type of accident well known in Spa-Francorchamps which unfortunately reminds us of by Anthoine Hubert, died on this tour on August 31, 2019.
