Presented at the Jiangzhou Motor Show at the end of 2021, the electric version of the Genesis GV70 arrives in Europe at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The debut of Hyundai’s premium brand in Europe came with a range that clearly bucked the trend. At its first European show, in Munich in September 2021, Genesis only exhibited petrol models based on good big V6s and without any trace of electrification.
A year later, the range is already preparing to welcome its third electric model. The GV70 SUV will thus arrive in an electric version in the wake of the GV60 crossover and the G80 sedan. In terms of style, this electric version does not mark a profound difference and is content with a closed grille and a subtly modified shield. It does without the blue chrome touches that some manufacturers persist in imposing on their electric models…
Mix of technologies
Unlike the GV60, the GV70 is not based on the e-GMP platform dedicated to electric vehicles from the Hyundai group. This does not prevent him from adopting its components. Including its batteries for which we find the voltage of 800 V, but here with a high charging power. We still lack detailed figures on these points, but during the presentation in China last year, Genesis mentioned 350 kW for charging and a range of more than 500 km, in the local cycle.
The only mechanical configuration offered will be a version with two motors developing 360 kW / 490 hp and 700 Nm. The 0 to 100 km/h is announced in 5.1 s.

In terms of the other components of the eGMP platform onboard the GV70, we should mention the V2L (Vehicle to Load) technology. Allowing to supply external electrical devices, it is also part of it with a maximum power of 3.6 kW. There is also one-pedal driving.
Adaptation of a base born for gasoline engines, the electric GV70 should not beat any efficiency record. We can thus expect it to have a little more than 400 km of WLTP autonomy. Not better than the GV60, but quite close to another adapted model, the BMW iX3…
