Total will increase its discount on motorways this summer to 12 euro cents per litre. The firm is under pressure from the Minister of the Economy Bruno le Maire.
From February 14 to May 15, Total launched a discount of 10 centimes per liter on fuel at many of its service stations. A rebate that combined with that of 18 centimes from the government. And that made it possible to reduce the very high prices a little.
This discount should have made a comeback for the summer. With one exception: it would not concern than highway stations. This in order, presumably, to accompany departures and journeys on vacation.
The executive puts pressure on Total
Still, this road map was not not enough in the eyes of the Minister of the Economy Bruno le Maire. A few weeks ago, TotalEnergies announced excellent scores for the first quarter of 2022, with a net result to 4.9 billion euros in profits. The companies referred to a « outperformance of oil trading activities. »
What has no more to the executive, which feels the discontent rising on the side of motorists. Consequently, Bruno le Maire put pressure on Total. This by asking the firm to review his copy on the discountto make it more profitable.
From 10 to 12 euro cents discount per liter
And Total to respond quickly to this request, with a measure whose effectiveness everyone will judge. Instead of 10 centimes discount per litre, it will be 12 cents that Total will let go. This from July 1, until August 31.
This represents a 20% increase compared to the initial proposal. With the state handover, which could be extended until the end of the yearthe rebate could increase up to 30 cents per liter. More concretely, on a full tank of 50 liters, this represents 15 euros saved.
This measure should affect the 17 million users that TotalEnergies motorway service stations see every summer. It remains to be seen whether this will be deemed sufficient by the minister. But also by users. With a price per liter beyond two euros at the moment, not sure that’s enough…
