The technical control of an electric or hybrid car is 8% more expensive than that of a thermal car.
In France, according to the “Simplauto” website, the average price of a technical inspection for a private car is €78.52. The site studied the prices of more than 5,600 centers in France, in June 2022. With big differences, since the least expensive service was €45, and the most expensive was €120!
To have more affordable control, it is better to live in Loiret, Moselle or Loire, with average prices under 70 €. For once, it is not in Paris that the prices are the highest, with an average in the capital of €89.43. In Southern Corsica, it’s €92.80 and in Haute-Savoie it’s downright €99.32.
In addition to the location, there are other aggravating factors for the price of a technical control. Already its category, with for example an average of 82.92 € for 4×4. Above all, the type of engine is an important variable. According to “Simplauto” statements, the average cost for a hybrid is €84.10. And for an electric one, it’s €85.10. That is 8.4% more than for thermals (gasoline and diesel). This is explained by a few more control points, which the centers do not hesitate to take into account!
This has an even greater impact on LPGs, whose technical adaptations, with the gas tank for example, must of course be checked. The average CT price with LPG is €93.24!

How to reduce the technical control bill?
- To reduce this expense, play the competition. To help you, the government has set up a site which lists all the prices. The owners of a center have the obligation to transmit the necessary information. You can thus find around you a service at a better price.
- Book online. Most centers have a site where you can block an appointment, with regular lower prices. Also watch for remaining slots that could be sold at a knockdown price.
- Track promotions and benefits. Your insurance company may in particular have a partnership with a brand for a preferential price. Another simple example (from experience): a reduction coupon on the back of a receipt.
- Avoid the counter-visit! In its study, “Simpleauto” indicates that the counter-visit is almost no longer offered. It costs from 15 to 30 €. Brands offer free check-ups before the control, a step that can avoid a bad surprise at the end.
