The range of the Suzuki Jimny will soon be completed by an elongated version with five doors, as confirmed by this prototype crossed by photographers.
Since its launch in 2018, the Suzuki Jimny has been the subject of rumors about a five-door long version. This one has already been crossed several times, but the model has still not been presented. With these new shots of a prototype in full test, we can hope that it will arrive shortly.
In its three-door version, the small 4×4 with its crisp cubic line measures 3.64 m (and even 3.48 m without the spare wheel). Initially sold as a four-seater, it has only been available as a two-seater utility variant for a few months, in order to avoid the resulting penalty. The five-door version should therefore lengthen slightly to gain space on board and trunk volume. Rumors announce 3.85 m long. The four wheels being always placed at the ends of the small 4×4, it is especially the wheelbase which should increase to give space to the rear passengers, a little forgotten on the 3-door variant. According to information from our colleagues atIndian coachthe wheelbase would be set at 2.55m, which is 30cm longer than the three-door Jimny.
Hybridization in sight
In addition to this new long version of the Jimny, it should receive a revised engine. The small 1.5 atmospheric 102 hp should add a micro-hybridization. And why not even a true hybridization thanks to a more powerful electric motor. Indeed, this 1.5 engine serves as the basis for Vitara and S-Cross hybrids, equipped with a 33 hp electric motor in addition. This would improve the performance of the mini-4×4 despite the slight overweight of this version, while reducing CO2 emissions and therefore the penalty.
The 5-door version of the Jimny is expected between the very end of 2022 and the start of 2023. It could arrive at the same time as the restyled version of the three-door Jimny, which will logically benefit from the same engine developments as its big brother.
