The Google Maps application will offer more efficient routes for drivers of electric, hybrid, petrol or diesel cars.
The best route is not always the fastest. According our colleagues from 9to5Google, the Google Maps application will soon offer its users a new feature. It will be possible optimize routes based on the type of vehicle you drive. A beta version (11.39) of the mobile application integrates in its lines of code the possibility of selecting your type of car.
When starting up Google Maps, theThe system will ask you if you are driving a petrol, diesel, electric or hybrid car. Based on your answer, it will calculate a suitable route, saving as much energy as possible. This is of course an option: you can always ask to know the fastest route.
Why this choice ?
Not all vehicles consume their energy in the same way. For example, a thermal car (gasoline or diesel) has similar fuel consumption, whether driving at 110 or 130 km/h. Conversely, an electric vehicle – unable to recover energy on the highway – will have much higher consumption as the speed increases.
Google’s algorithm will take these nuances into account to offer you the most suitable route.
For electric vehicle drivers, the best navigation app remains in our eyes A better route planner (ABRP). This notably takes into account the availability of charging stations to best calculate the fairest route.
