For proper car maintenance, the choice of battery is very important. Of course, it doesn’t have to be changed every two months, but all the same, you might as well go about it the right way.
To change the battery, it is best not to wait for the latter to fail completely. At the first signs of weakness, it is good to look into the subject. On average, a car battery has a life expectancy of about 4 years.
But then, when the first signs appear, how to make the right choice? Of course, a specialist can always guide you in this decision, but it is always good to know your vehicle.
There are therefore several criteria to be taken into account such as, for example, the age of the car, the region in which you drive but also the size of the vehicle and its electricity needs.
More or less powerful?
To know the capacity of a battery, you have to look at the quantity Ampere-hour (Ah). As a general rule, for a battery, the latter is between 32 and 100 Ah.
To understand more simply, if your battery develops 50 Ah, it means that it can produce 10 Ah in 5 hours or 50 Ah in one hour.
It is therefore always best to look at the power of your old battery to be able to start over with an equivalent model. But if this is not possible, be aware that older vehicles will always need a more powerful battery. This is also the case with diesels or powerful engines or even if the region in which you are driving is cold.
Finally, the system Start and Stop influences the choice of battery. Indeed, if your car is not equipped with it, an open, traditional lead-acid battery will do the trick. But conversely, if your car has the system of Start and Stopit is absolutely necessary to choose an AGM or EFB battery. More expensive but more reliable, they better meet the needs of this technology.
