The compact electric under the Alpine coat of arms has just been revealed implicitly by the boss of the Dieppoise firm. What could she look like?
New Renault Megane Alpine – Alpine seems to spare no expense since its involvement in the most prestigious automobile competitions. A very expensive participation in endurance (WEC), in Formula 1, and perhaps soon in rally, which seems disproportionate for this small manufacturer assembling only a few thousand copies of its unique A110 each year. But this debauchery of means hides a completely different reality, of a marketing nature, aimed primarily at sell Renaults, and more particularly the most expensive versions of the range, under the Esprit Alpine label.
Greater margins at the key
Last spring, the SUV Renault Austral was the first Losange model to feature this new “sporty” finish, developed in collaboration with Alpine, as indicated by his name. Exit the RS Line coat of arms, since the dissolution of the Renault-Sport department. But don’t expect high performance on the part of models using this new Renault emblem having notably taken the decision to limit the maximum speed of its future range to 180 km/h. The Renault Esprit Alpine will mainly highlight a more dynamic exterior look and more refined on-board services. Let’s hope, however, that future models will be more demonstrative, insofar as the Austral Esprit Alpine is struggling to stand out from the classic range.
The first electric Alpine
While almost the entire Renault range will benefit from Alpine’s image, in the medium term, the next on the list should be embodied by the recent Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric, as recently suggested by the boss of the Norman builder, Laurent Rossi, on his Instagram account. He posted a photo of a camouflaged electric Mégane prototype, captioned as follows: “One of the things I enjoy the most is sharing our alpine history with as many people as possible. In particular, it’s always a pleasure to reveal our best kept secrets to those who are really eager to discover them. Thank you to our friends from the press for the enriching and lively conversations around our beautiful brand! »
Understand that Renault hopes bring the Alpine label to the widest possible range of customers, in the years to come. For its part, the electric Mégane Esprit Alpine should be content with new rims, as well as some aesthetic touches referring to the Berlinettes. But its maximum power level should not exceed 220 hp, as is already the case today. On board, the compact should beef up its game by adopting more enveloping seats in Alcantara stamped with the famous “A” arrow.
Renault Megane Alpine price
Unveiled probably before the end of the year, this new Mégane E-Tech Electric Esprit Alpine could take its first steps at the Paris Motor Show next October, unless it takes advantage of the media exposure offered by Formula 1 to show off during a next round of the 2022 season. On the price side, it will probably be necessary to reduceenviron 50 000 € to access this exceptional finish.
