While the discount of 18 cents was to gradually disappear by the end of the year, it could finally be renewed and increased by several cents.
In recent hours, rumors about a radical change in government action to protect the French from too severe an increase in fuel prices are becoming urgent. The executive wanted phase out the 18-cent discount per litre, by the end of the year. While replacing the latter with a compensation of 100 to 200 euros for motorists driving to work. To this was added a project of boost of 50 to 100 euros for large rollers.
Except that the government group does not have an absolute majority in the National Assembly. In order to pass laws, it is therefore necessary to negotiate with other political groups… and sometimes make concessions.
The discount kept under pressure from the Republicans?
This is particularly the case for passing the law on purchasing power, currently being debated at the Palais Bourbon. Thereby, the majority would try to ally with the Republicans, which have 62 seats. which would allow to get a majority and of pass the text.
Except that for that, you have to negotiate. And on fuel aid, in particular, the two groups have a different position. The group Renaissance wants targeted aid and wanted to be fairer. LR wants, on the contrary, provide a general boostas is currently the case with the discount of 18 cents.
30 cents per liter for the fuel discount?
In order to attract the sympathy of LR, the idea of eliminating this discount could therefore be abandoned, in the bill currently presented. It would go even further. In effect, this same aid could be increased.
Thus, as of next September, this rebate could go from 18 cents per liter to no less than 30 cents. What would fit in the envelope of 4.4 billion euros allocated to fuelsout of the 20 presented for this law on purchasing power.
The projects currently defended by the government would not, however, be forgotten. This rebate would become degressive. The majority would not give up ” not really “ fuel allowanceaccording to an LR deputy quoted by The voice of the North. The latter, however, would take “another form”according to the same interlocutor.
