Four years after its revelation in concept form, the Fiat Fastback SUV is keeping its word by unveiling its production variant ready to compete with the Arkana.
Fiat Fastback – After Renault and its Arkana, Fiat is the second generalist manufacturer to believe in the democratization of the coupe SUV profilein order to offer as many people as possible a cheap alternative to the BMW X6. A first image revealing the silhouette of this great Italian premiere has just been officially unveiled.
Up to 175 hp
If the Fiat Fastback study had impressed, in 2018, with its size of 4.60 m long, the standard version should reduce the airfoil in order to spare its prices. It should lengthen on only 4.40 m, roughly the size of a Nissan Qashqai, when the Arkana extends to 4.57 m. Ideal positioning for Fiat’s new baby which, however, does not rule out using tonic mechanics, with at the top of its range a 175 hp 1.7 liter turbo petrol engine, where its rival the Losange peaks at only 160 hp. The transalpine SUV can also count on a more modest block of 1.0 l displacement and developing 130 hp. On the transmission side, it is a question ofa CVT automatic in addition to a dual-clutch variant.
Soon in Europe?
It will still be necessary to wait to know the extent of the official characteristics of this very promising Fiat Fastback which, initially, will only be marketed in South America, where it was developed. But the decision could be taken to export it to the Old Continent, in a few months, in order to play spoilsport in a category of compact SUVs still very polished, in which the Renault Arkana has brilliantly pulled out of the game.
