The TotalEnergies group will lower its prices at the pump by 20 cents between September and November. This measure is in addition to government assistance.
Did the pressure work? In the midst of a debate on taxation des « superprofits », TotalEnergies promises a discount at the pump of 20 cents per liter from September to November. The measure will be extended in December by a reduction of 10 cents on unleaded and diesel fuel, the group indicated in a statement posted Friday July 22.
“Our priority therefore goes to consumers, because we prefer to make an immediate and direct contribution for our customers, rather than an indirect tax which would penalize our refineries. […] With this massive price reduction program in our resorts, we hope that this long-term commitment, which will be heard by our customers, will also be heard by the national representation” – Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of Total
The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, “welcomed” the decision of the number 1 fuel in France in an intervention on BFM-TV. In recent weeks, Bercy had requested “efforts” from Total in order to relieve the purchasing power of households and the cash flow of professionals.
This discount is in addition to that already put in place by the government since April 1. This should see its amount drop to 12 cents on October 1, then to 6 cents on November 1 before disappearing on December 1.
