Certainly, Chinese manufacturers have the wind in their sails at the moment, and seem ready to conquer the European car market. While MG or Aiways were completely unknown a few years ago, although the first has a beautiful historical heritage, these two manufacturers are still talking about them today. And for good reason, these brands, as well as others such as Lynk &Co or Nio are increasing the number of new electrical products, in order to find a place in a very demanding market in terms of environmental standards. This is particularly the case of Aiways, a young Chinese manufacturer which came to Europe in 2019 with its U5, its very first production vehicle, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show the same year. As a reminder, it then embeds a 100% electric motor developing 190 horsepower and can then travel 560 kilometers in a single charge.
Today, if the Asian firm is talking about it again, it is because it has just lifted the veil on a second model, which will also make its arrival on the European market shortly. This is all new U6, the first images of which have just been unveiled, showing the definitive styling of the SUV, which had already been shown a few months earlier in concept car form. So here we are facing the production version, which adopts a design in line with the U5, with rather desirable features. Logical, when we know that these are signed by designer Kiyoyuki Okuyama, who is also behind the design of the legendary Ferrari Enzo and the Porsche 993, and who also worked on the style of the very last Honda NSX. Suffice to say that the design, he knows well, and it shows. On board, the presentation is ultra refined, and is reminiscent of what Tesla already offers, with its large touch screen and its long dashboard, without artifice.
Launch at the end of the year
For now, Aiways did not wish to give too many technical details on its new creation, while these should be unveiled a little later. However, everything suggests that the SUV will take the characteristics of the U5, while the two share the same platform. So let’s expect to discover an SUV developing no less than 204 horsepower from its electric motor, associated with a 63 kWh battery. Later, a seven-seater version, called U7 will also make its arrival in the catalog, as well as a sports car, the details of which are not yet known. Anyway, we will have to expect to discover this new Aiways U6 in European concessions by the end of the year, as announced by the Chinese manufacturer. The prices are not yet known, while the Aimais U5 is displayed at less than 40,000 € in France.
