An American study shows that ecology is not at the center of priorities for the purchase of electric cars. Other reasons have priority over the environment.
The electric car is, above all else, a means of reducing the pollution of the global car fleet. This is obviously the first reason why governments will force its adoption. However, not all motorists are convinced by this argument.
The manufacturer Polestar has conducted a survey in the United States to find out what drives people to adopt it. The Swedish firm surveyed 5,086 drivers about their electric car and the reasons for buying it.
The result shows that 55% of them did not have ecology in mind at the time of their choice, which unsurprisingly echoes what was predicted in a previous editorial. However, this figure varies according to the age of the respondents, and this argument is more apparent among 18-24 year olds.
Among the other arguments, 48% cited cost reduction for the expense item of the vehicle. Performance is an argument for 30% of motorists, which explains the race for power of certain “zero emission” vehicles.
