Dodge is taking a 90° turn toward electric mobility. In the maneuver, the thermal V8 will retire definitively.

Dodge has cultivated its image as a heavyweight in the US auto industry rather well in recent years. The American marque has been particularly focused on developing its Hellcat badge with a bodybuilt coupe and sedan, while nurturing its muscular appearances in films with equally pumped-up actors. If the signature will always be worked, the heart of its Muscle Cars will be retiring soon.

This was implicitly indicated by Dave Elshoff, the brand’s spokesperson, during an interview with Motor Authority. According to him, the rumors are on the wrong track and the appearance of the new Dodge eMuscle will push the famous V8 Hemi, with vocalizations from beyond the grave, into retirement. In fact, it would even mark the beginning of a new era by announcing the gradual end of all Dodge combustion engines.

More Dodge V8s from 2023?

The end of the road for this engine is set for 2023, just before the appearance of the brand’s next electric sports car. It would take over the STLA-Large platform from Stellantis, and would carry a pair of EDM#3 engines for a minimum power of 1,000 HP. His goal ? To pay the scalp of the Tesla Model S Plaid on the tracks of dragracenational motor sport.

The news is not really news. By 2024, the auto industry would no longer allow manufacturers with electric goals to be schizophrenic. There would be at best a short handover during which the V8 Hemi would coexist with the electric Dodge. In any case, the V8 will indeed end up entering museums, Dodge planning a 100% electric range from 2030.
