This second generation of Laguna saw its reputation tarnished by multiple early career reliability issues, which partly explain its rating very little sustained. It is nonetheless a particularly successful model in terms of safety. In addition to exemplary road handling, with ESC anti-slip as standard on all versions, it offers first-rate passive safety. L’habitability of this 4.58 m 5-door saloon – also available as an Estate wagon (over 13 cm) – is revealed generous and its cubic trunk from 430 to 1340 liters, bench seat folded down. Outraged a very successful comfort, its interior combines neat finish – further improved with the March 2005 restyling – and extensive equipment. “Base” gasoline engine, this 1.6 16v 110/115 hp offers performance that is already largely sufficient.
RELIABILITY 2/5 & 4/5
Very poor reliability, with problems on dCi engines and electronics in particular, drastically improved during the 2005 restyling.
- Motor : ignition coils burning.
- Gearbox quite fragile, breakages.
- Direction : rupture of the kneecaps.
- Tires : sometimes rapid wear.
- Window regulators : engine breakage.
- Passenger compartment : “nightingales”.
- Electronics / multiplexing : countless breakdowns (hands-free card, dashboard, air conditioning, tire pressure warning light, etc.), in particular on the first models.
