Never use Cortana, find Windows 10 personal assistant too intrusive and want to turn it off? Today, Futura explains the procedure to follow in order to get rid of it.
Cortana is the name of the personal assistant developed by, released in 2014 for initially and which is now also integrated into the operating system on PC. Like all intelligent, it can be very practical and provide many services, the counterpart being the data collection that when you use it. If you find Cortana useless or if you are worried about the security of your personal data, it is possible to deactivate it on Windows 10. Today, Futura is showing you what to do if you have the Family version of Windows 10.
First, click on the magnifying glass “Search” button in your taskbar, then type “Run” in the blank field. You will then see the“Execute” as the best result. Click on it. You can also use the “Windows + R” to achieve the same result.
The“Execute” appears on the screen, type “regedit” in the empty field, then validate with a click on “OK”.
The Registry Editor window appears.
Now browse the tree until you find the “Computer HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows Windows Search” key.
It is possible that the key in question does not exist. If so, it must be created. To do this, right-click in the tree view on the “Windows” key, select “New” from the contextual menu, then click on “Key”. Give it the name “Windows Search”.
Right-click on the “Windows Search” key, choose “New” in the contextual menu, then for “32-bit DWORD value” in the choices available to you.
Name the value you just created “AllowCortana”. By default, its value should be 0.
You can now log out of your session for the change to take effect.
When you reconnect, right click on a free area of your taskbar. You may find that the “Show Cortana button” option is gone.
If for some reason you want to turn Cortana back on, go back to the Registry Editor, right click on the “AllowCortana” value and choose “Edit”.
A window for modifying the value appears. Change the value data to “1”, then confirm with “OK”.
Cortana is then active again.
