To avoid network overload, the executive and RTE however invite users of electric cars to good citizenship. Concretely, motorists will be encouraged to do not plug in their vehicle during potential daytime peaks, that’s to say between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m..
The authorities will not impose any sanctions, but invite EV owners to shift their charging to off-peak hours. A habit already adopted by many drivers of electric vehicles, who connect the car to the Wallbox or to public terminals at night.
In the event of a major problem, however, it could be asked charging station operators to switch to electricity already stored in batteries.
According to the RTE report, if 100,000 electric vehicles (out of a fleet of 700,000 in 2021) anticipated or postponed their charging, this would cause an instantaneous drop in consumption of 0.1 GW.
