[Mis à jour le 04/05/2021 à 16h40] The SUV genre continues to do relatively well commercially. The models have multiplied in recent years and benefit from their rapid extension to engines hybrid and 100% electric. However, no elevated vehicle is currently in the leading duo of the French market. At the end of April, two city dwellers dominated the debates. In the lead, the Peugeot 208 II (33,370 units) is ahead of the Renault Clio V (29,037 units), but the latter’s second place hangs by a thread.
Indeed, the currently best-selling SUV in France was very close to supplanting the Clio. It’s about Peugeot 2008, credited with 27,269 registrations during the first four months of the year, or a market share of 4.7%, according to the latest figures published by the Committee of French Automobile Manufacturers (CCFA). The urban SUV of the lion firm was already the benchmark of the genre for the whole of fiscal year 2020, in favor of the recent arrival of its second opus.
Peugeot doubled ahead of Renault
A good distance from 2008, the second best SUV classified from january to april is none other than its big brother, the Peugeot 3008 (20,446 units, 3.5%). In the third row, appears the first representative of Losange, direct rival of 2008, in the person of Renault Captur (18,679 units, 3.2%). At the foot of the podium of the best-selling SUVs on the French market is the Dacia Duster, closely followed by three models belonging to the PSA group (Stellantis), the Citroën C3 Aircross, the Peugeot 5008 and the Citroën C5 Aircross.
In addition, at the end of the first four months of the year, the status of SUV with the banner of a top-selling foreign group in France returns to Volkswagen T-Roc. During the month of April, it overtook the Ford Puma, the category leader in 2020. Next come, in that order, the Toyota C-HR, the recent Hyundai Tucson, the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Renault Kadjar.
