Yes yes, you read the title correctly. There is no extra number. The facts date back to October 2020 and during this period, the Belgian police had recorded a motorist at 306 km / h near Liège.
It may sound ridiculous and absurd, but this motorist will not be not prosecuted by Belgian justice. But why in fact?
During the check, the speed of 306 km / h was recorded by an NK7 radar. Legal problem: this type of speed camera is not not approved for speeds above 300 km / h.
Asked by our colleagues from Sudinfo, Michel Niezen, director of the Sirien company which takes care of providing the radars, explains:
“The radar being approved up to 300km / h, the measured speed is not legally acceptable”.
However, there is still a way to punish the culprit, but do we still need to be able to identify it …
No trace
If this is not the speed displayed on the radar, there is no trace of this driver. Indeed, no photo of the car in question was taken. Nobody therefore knows the model or even the license plate of the culprit.
With more information, the police could still have imposed a fine for very dangerous driving. But now, the identity of the culprit remains a mystery.
