An important step has just been taken for the Lightyear 0. The very first example in production definition has just been assembled by Valmet in Finland.
Step by step, the dream of the creators of Lightyear becomes a reality? The solar car has just reached a new milestone. It is no longer a concept or a prototype and it is taking its first steps in the Valmet factory in Uusikaupunki in Finland.
Indeed, the very first copy of pre-series has just been assembled there. Pre-series, it is therefore not yet a model intended to be delivered to customers. Nevertheless, this copy is a vehicle assembled entirely with parts in series configuration. It was assembled here in a specific workshop and not on the main assembly line. It allows teams to be trained, parts and their configuration to be validated, but not yet to validate the production process itself. The pre-production phase will still see the release of several copies, which will precede the 1000 production units planned for the Lightyear 0. A limited volume which allows access to a less strict approval process in the European Union.
Valmet is currently assembling the Mercedes A-Class, but the volume of the latter should gradually be reduced. But the Lightyear 0 will not be alone in occupying the premises. It will share the factory with the Sono Sion, another “solar” electric car from Germany. The Finnish company is gradually specializing in the production of electric cars. It also produces batteries, since CATL is one of its largest shareholders (23.08%)…
