Alpine pays tribute to its driver Fernando Alonso, who will soon be leaving the team for Aston Martin. The special series, based on the new A110 R, will be produced in 32 copies.
At the beginning of August, it was a real thunderclap that fell on Formula 1. We learned that Fernando Alonso finally left the Alpine team despite a contract proposal for the year 2023, to join that of Aston Martin. Despite everything, the manufacturer from Dieppe is not resentful and unveils the special series on which Alonso has put his personal touch.
Number plate and yellow and orange spikes
Just revealed, the new Alpine A110 R is indeed already entitled to a limited series, bearing the image of Alonso. The manufacturer and the double F1 world champion have collaborated to create a more exclusive and very limited A110 R: 32 copies, corresponding to the number of victories of the Spanish driver in F1. A numbered plate on the central console bears the name of the circuit and the year of one of the victories signed by the double world champion.
In terms of aesthetics, the A110 R Fernando Alonso uses the Mat Racing Blue color of the A110 R (from the A522 single-seater), but is distinguished by the front and rear bonnets painted in Deep Black. The gooseneck masts of the aileron are also painted black. There are also touches of orange and yellow, “the colors of the pilot” according to the press release. They appear in particular on the brake calipers, the flag placed on the quarter panels and the door trims, or even on the straps serving as interior door handles. We also note the presence of the pilot’s signature on the front hood, the rear bumper and the headrests. Finally, on the sun visor, a phrase “which marks the pilot’s philosophy” is laser engraved: “ There is more than one path to the top of the mountain (“There is more than one way to get to the top”).
A specific adjustment system
On the technical side, the A110 R had already undergone a large dose of modifications. In addition to these, the special Fernando Alonso series offers a specific adjustment system to lower the ride height and the stiffness of the suspension springs. Thanks to a wedge placed at the base of the spring, the body is lowered by 10 mm, allowing use on the track only. At the same time, the stiffness of the suspension is increased by 5%, a patented innovation according to the brand. Users will be able to modify the settings with just a few manipulations, allowing for example to find those defined by Alonso himself during winter testing on the Barcelona F1 circuit.
For the moment, Alpine does not communicate on the price of the special Fernando Alonso series, or even of the classic A110 R. The manufacturer could say more at the Paris Motor Show, where it will have a stand. As a reminder, the event will be open to the public from October 18 to 23, at the Parc des Expositions at Porte de Versailles (Paris).
