Television, telephone, computer screen… We are enormously confronted with artificial blue light. This is harmful to our health and well-being. Filters and glasses fitted with photoprotection lenses are essential equipment to reduce everyday discomfort and avoid inconveniences to health. Let’s take a closer look.
What causes a real problem of blue light on our vision is the duration of exposure and the fact that we are physically very close to these sources of blue light. Smartphones, computers and tablets are only about ten centimeters from our eyes. Fortunately, some blue light blocking glasses exist to prevent it.
What are the harmful effects of blue light on our vision?
- No more eye fatigue because the eye is much too stressed up to the frequent appearance of headaches.
- The sleep cycle is scrambled and this leads to difficulty falling asleep. In this regard, studies have shown that blue light affects the natural hormonal production supposed to promote rest at night. The National Institute of Sleep and Vigilance also clarified that the secretion of melatonin is diminished, yet essential in the process of wakefulness and sleep. Ultimately, disturbed nights can cause attention problems, learning difficulties and mood swings.
- And phototoxicity effect which alters the perception cells of the retina, which increases the risk of macular degeneration (a disease that reduces visual acuity).
- An increase in ocular dryness and feelings of discomfort after prolonged exposure to a screen, especially after a day’s work.

One of the solutions if you experience some of these negative effects is to wear blue light blocking glasses. For example, the Krys brand offers many models of glasses, with or without correction, equipped with a blue light filter. The very lightly tinted lenses considerably reduce the visual aggressions generated by LED lights and screens.
In addition, even worn all day (in front of a screen or not) blue light blocking glasses only protect against artificial light. Blue sunlight, for example, essential for the circadian rhythm, helps maintain the natural biological cycle. You can of course wear them all the time, but remember that they do not protect against UV rays and do not have the same uses as sun protection.
Another tip: change some of our bad habits. Starting with the use of screens in the evening before going to bed. According to the recommendations, all harmful light sources should be turned off at least an hour and a half before bedtime and two hours before for children!
