New episode in the Ford Mondeo soap opera. After thinking that the sedan would be discontinued, then eventually replaced by a crossover, it was learned last June that Ford was planning to roll over the sedan in its traditional form. Prototypes had also been crossed before the summer, confirming that something was up. Today the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Technological Information published official images of the future Chinese version.
A look close to the Evos
As predicted by our illustration from last June, the future Mondeo adopts a traditional sedan styling, enhanced with new details foreshadowed by the Evos. We find for example the grille and the optics of the SUV, identical mirrors or similarities on the front bumper.
The photos show several versions including an ST-Line with a more sporty look. The photos also show details such as the sunroofs, the two-tone color, several types of rims and bumpers… The Mondeo name is well inscribed on the trunk of this Chinese version, below a large band of lights. It remains to be seen whether Ford will keep this historic surname in Europe or change its name.
An arrival in Europe still uncertain
The current Mondeo is expected to hit the market in March 2022, along with its Fusion twin in the US. Ford did not officially rule on its strategy afterwards, and we therefore do not know if Europe will be entitled to this sedan (which should also receive a wagon version) or if the Old Continent will be satisfied with the Evos crossover. To be continued …
