Dodge promised crazy sound for the Daytona SRT EV. In the end, the enthusiasts are disappointed and the CEO is well aware of it.

Dodges are generally recognizable with their otherworldly sound emitted from the exhaust by their compressed engine. An auditory signature in tune with the brand image. But the electric revolution has come, and the manufacturer must be able to perpetuate its image. The solution: the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaustinaugurated with the Dodge Dayton SRT EV Concept.

A very complicated name to characterize the sound reproduction system that was installed in the Dodge Daytona SRT EV Concept, which was to produce a sound “shocking”. What was the case: Internet users were relatively shocked to hear what they had just heard during the presentation of the concept. Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis told Motor Trend be aware that enthusiasts may be disappointed with this sound. According to him, the soundtrack was distorted by the various microphones present around the car.

The Dodge Daytona Concept will revamp its soundtrack

The amplifier, which plays synthesized sounds through a tuning chamber, was therefore unable to express itself as it should. Still, Dodge was reportedly careful not to place microphones around the car, as they were primarily calibrated for human voices. The purpose of the operation: to let the system vibrate the air, and not the speakers. An astonishing statement when said system actually relies on built-in speakers to be heard.

A double-edged choice, therefore, according to Kuniskis, who says that the recorded videos do not do justice to this system which can climb to 126 dB, since it is in the real world that the sound is purest. Still, the task does not seem so simple for the manufacturer to find a series of chords that more or less faithfully evoke the explosions of the combustion chambers. But whatever the boss of Dodge says, the sound of the concept is for the moment as attractive as that of an old unlicensed arcade video game. The crews filming the next Fast and Furious will therefore have to see this in post-production: Kuniskis indicated that Dodge had another two years before arriving at the right balance.
