A motorist discovered that her license, obtained in 1982, had been canceled in 1993, even though she had not committed any offence.
Driving for nearly 40 years without ever committing an offense and discover that his license was canceled almost 30 years ago, does this seem incongruous to you? Yet this is the story that happened to Valérie Pianet, resident of Saint-Pathus (Seine-et-Marne).
Motorist since 1982, the latter has not committed the slightest offence. 39 years later, in July 2022, she had her wallet stolen in the metro. Logical reflex: “I went to file a complaint at a police station in Paris”, she tells the Parisian. All this to learn a few days later that it is no longer valid.
“I was told that I no longer had a driving license since it was canceled by the courts on August 18, 1993. I did not know this, since I had never been convicted and I had never committed an offence. I had been driving like this for almost 30 years, without knowing it. »
A fight for the permit against the French administrative machine
Then begins a long fight against the French administrative machine. The gendarmes explain to the victim that this is not identity theft. Valérie Pianet then sends letters to the Ministry of the Interior, to the prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis, to the service of the national file of driving licenses. “Nobody deigned to answer me”she laments … Only the Meaux court has confirmed that he has no criminal record.
The motorist then referred to a lawyer specializing in this type of case, master Rémy Josseaume. The latter summarizes the dispute:
“In my career, I have handled one or two files of this type. We are probably dealing with a typing error. The problem is that you have to fight to win your case, when it could be settled in 48 hours. »
In the meantime, Valérie Pianet has become a pedestrian again but intends to fight to recover his precious sesame.
