Toyota Yaris GR: the world's fastest Yaris by Powertune
ADVERTISEMENT

The Austrian tuners of Powertune have struck again, this time on the small Toyota Yaris GR and its modest 1.6 3-cylinder, which climbs to 479 hp on the bench!

Already very well equipped in its basic version with a 261 hp 1.6 three-cylinder, the Toyota Yaris GR has reached a new milestone thanks to the Australians of Powertune. After some minor mechanical modifications, it becomes the fastest Yaris in the world, with almost double the power compared to the classic GR.

More than 500 hp in a Yaris?

Powertune Australia, which has been working on a supercharged Yaris GR for a few months, had already managed to squeeze 435 hp from the original 1.6 three-cylinder engine. But this one seemed to have reached its limit. It was without counting on the determination of the Australian tuners, who reworked the orange pistarde by offering it, among other things, a new fuel pump and a larger tank. Thanks to these modifications, Powertune achieves 479 hp with its Yaris on a test bench! In real power, the Australian Yaris would therefore exceed 500 hp, just like a certain Porsche 911 GT3 which peaks at 510 hp.

The most excellent in all of this? Apart from the few minor modifications mentioned above and new valve springs for the engine, all the rest of the mechanics are original: pistons, cylinder head gaskets, camshafts… This shows the real potential of the 1.6 Toyota, that Powertune has yet to take to the track. But that will not be long in coming, since the goal is to do a 400 meters in less than 10 seconds … And with the light weight of the Yaris GR (1,280 kg for the production version), performance on the track could well exceed that of much more powerful supercars!
