In the future, Alpine will bet on the successor to the A110 and on an electric SUV. For the latter, the manufacturer will not sacrifice sportiness.
The arrival of an SUV in the Alpine range is obviously enough to scare the purists of the brand. But the manufacturer promises that it will not sacrifice behavior and sporty appearance for a high volume of sales.
The GT-X Over, code name of Alpine’s future electric crossover, will be a small sporty SUV. Antony Villain, Alpine’s head of design, explained to Autocar how the brand will ensure that this new model is indeed an Alpine.
“If we keep the driving experience, the elegance, the sportiness and the posture of the car, that’s not a problem”assure Villain. “You will see a lot of links with the A110”he added.
According to him, this is the equation that many brands have to solve today. With nearly one in two sales, SUVs are now essential. Sports companies have to deal with this to find the right balance between sales and respect for their heritage.
“I think there are a lot of other builders exploring ways to stay true to their DNA. I think it’s possible, and there are a lot of customers who really want this kind of car. »
