F1 - Brazil 2021: the drivers' ratings
ADVERTISEMENT

Lewis Hamilton (10e -> 1er) – 10/10 : This Grand Prix weekend has shown us the extent of the know-how of the Mercedes team and the talent of the seven-time world champion. After having lived an ordeal by having accumulated 25 penalty places, the British driver made a faultless. First of all, during the sprint race, we started to climb back from 20th place to 5th place. And finally, on Sunday, by going for the victory from 10th position on the starting grid, with in short an impressive weapon pass with Max Verstappen. In short, the English champion has shown determination, talent and intelligence to build a weekend, not without fault, but perfect its result.

Max Verstappen (2e -> 2e) – 9/10 : Despite his 2nd place at the finish line, the championship leader achieved an almost perfect Grand Prix. Particularly in the pace imposed from the start of the weekend, but especially in the arduous defense imposed on Lewis Hamilton. The Dutchman was still powerless against the Mercedes, which worked perfectly on this Interlagos track. He will have tried everything, even trying to play with the limits of the rules. He left Brazil anyway, keeping the status of leader of the championship with 14 points ahead of the winner of this weekend.

Valtteri Bottas (1er -> 3e) – 8/10: The Finn also came close to the perfect race. Very fast in qualifying and especially in the sprint race, we could expect to put up more resistance to Red Bull this weekend. Particularly in the race on Sunday, when we observe the pace of the latter and that of Max Verstappen. Valtteri Bottas had a real opportunity to bring Mercedes a brace for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. However, the future Alfa Romeo driver has been fulfilled his main role, containing Sergio Pérez and bringing a good number of points to Mercedes, with a view to the manufacturer’s championship. We could expect a little more. But doesn’t that sound like resignation on the part of the Finn in the Mercedes team?

F1 – Valtteri Bottas: can he relaunch Alfa Romeo in 2022?

Sergio Pérez (4th -> 4th) – 7/10: Like Valtteri Bottas, the Mexican has fulfilled his role of lieutenant for Max Verstappen and Red Bull. More constant than before, throughout the weekend, it is a shame to see Sergio Pérez finish at the foot of the podium. Despite everything, didn’t the child of Mexico do everything possible in the face of the impressive performance of the Mercedes this weekend? The only real regret that we can harbor for him is his lack of pace in the race. Fast and competing with the Mercedes at the start of the race, the Red Bull driver was quickly left behind and dropped in the lead in the fight.

Charles Leclerc (6e -> 5e) – 7/10 : The Monegasque is taking full advantage of the good form and developments of his Ferrari. As a result, despite his little hiccup in qualifying, Charles Leclerc gradually scrambled the positions until he presented himself as the best of the others on Sunday. He notably surpasses Pierre Gasly and Carlos Sainz, to win in 5th place at the end and allow the Scuderia to extend their lead in the constructors’ championship, against McLaren.

Carlos Sainz (3e -> 6e) – 6/10 : We can only evoke regrets about Carlos Sainz’s race. After dominating his teammate over the entire weekend, in qualifying and in particular during the sprint race, the new Ferrari driver lost all his means in the race. The key moment? It’s the start. The native of Madrid completely missed his flight. First of all by crushing and hitting Lando Norris’ single-seater, then by losing the advantage against all his direct competitors, and particularly his teammate. From then on, he only followed Charles Leclerc’s single-seater, never leaving his 6th position. A weekend so clean but marred by the big failure of the start on Sunday.

Pierre Gasly (7e -> 7e) – 8/10 : The Frenchman continues to shine and we get used to the big results. Once again he positions himself as the best of the others in qualifying. But it has been observed that when Ferraris find their rhythm, the Alpha Tauri does not stand a chance. The Norman was therefore unable to continue on the launch of qualifying on Saturday and Sunday. Despite everything, Pierre Gasly dominates the Alpine and brings as many points as the two French single-seaters combined. As a result, Alpha Tauri and Alpine both maintain 112 points in the constructors’ championship. Who will win in the end?

Esteban Ocon (8e -> 8e) – 7/10 : The Alpine rider somehow survives amidst the chaos of the peloton at the start. Esteban Ocon managed to maintain a good 10th position. Subsequently, the Normand built his race by keeping a regular pace and doing the best with his single-seater. As a result, he ended up overtaking Sebastian Vettel’s Aston Martin, in the pitstop game. Then sees luck smile on him with the retirement of Daniel Ricciardo’s McLaren. As a result, he maintained his starting position and returned to the top 10! Enough to encourage the French team and its driver for the end of the season.

Fernando Alonso (12e -> 9e) – 8/10 : The Spaniard made a good start of which only he has the secret, to glean a position and to place just behind his teammate. From then on, Fernando Alonso also took advantage of the catastrophic pace of the Aston Martins and the abandonment of Daniel Ricciardo to glean positions “easily”. However, his team did not make life easy for him. The Alpine rider stopped twice in the pits this Sunday. An aggressive strategy, the timing of which was not perfect. Unlike Esteban Ocon, the Taurus of Asturias battled behind competitors who were not on the same pace as him. However, this did not slow down Fernando Alonso who always found the solution to interfere until the 9th position. As a result, it also brings points to Alpine and allows the French team to stay in the fight in the constructors’ championship.

Lando Norris ( 5e -> 10e) – 6/10 : From the start, the Briton was the victim of contact with Carlos Sainz who burst his tire. After the first lap, the McLaren driver found himself last but saw the safety car save him the day. From then on, Lando Norris began an active comeback. The Englishman took advantage of the game of pit stops and his offbeat strategy to make short work of his competitors and quickly return to the gates of the top 10. The McLaren protege had only to survive and see his teammate to give up to thus glean a small point in this Grand Prix of Saõ Paulo.

Sebastian Vettel (9e -> 11e) – 4/10 : But where was Sebastian Vettel? Starting in 9th position, the German was quickly erased by the Mercedes, but also by the cameras. The truth is, the four-time world champion suffered the cruel lack of racing pace of his Aston Martin. He therefore remained powerless against Pierre Gasly and the Alpine… This season is to be thrown at the side of the team based at Silverstone. We have to re-mobilize for next year.

Kimi Räikkönen (20e -> 12e) – 7/10: From Mexico, the flying Finn seems to have found something on his Alfa Romeo. Unfortunately, starting from the pit lane, the almost retired had an almost perfect race. And we can only salute the very nice comeback he made. The result is therefore regrettable when we look at Kimi Räikkönen’s racing pace. Could he have aimed for the top 10 by starting higher on the grid?

George Russell (17e -> 13e) – 5/10 : The future Mercedes driver has surprisingly lacked pace this weekend. Especially on Friday in qualifying but also on Saturday in sprint race. He who usually always arrives at the back of the pack, missed the boat and was beaten by his teammate in qualifying for the first time in his F1 career. However, can we really blame him for this? It may also be the victim of its car, which does not evolve as much as its competitors. Or is it because of a global relaxation, now that he knows his future which promises to be bright? What is certain is that Sunday was much brighter. George Russell in particular imposed his rhythm and managed to extricate himself from the lot at the back of the grid, to finally glean a nice 13th position at the finish.

Antonio Giovinazzi (13e -> 14e) – 4/10: While we thought the Italian pilot freed by the announcement of his future, ultimately it is not. The Alfa Romeo driver seems to be on the decline and no longer provides the necessary effort, especially when we observe the performance of his car at the end of the season. As a result, he finished far from his teammate who left last and even saw a Williams pass him in the race.

Yuki Tsunoda (15e-> 15e) – 3/10: The Japanese are perhaps the most frustrating driver on the grid. After his good performance in Mexico, not followed by effect, we could expect to see the rookie again supporting Pierre Gasly in the top 10. And despite a good pace posted at the start of the weekend, Yuki Tsunoda did not succeed. has everything in place, once again… He therefore ends up very far from his teammate and remains useless for Alpha Tauri in the race for the constructors’ championship. I hope the young pilot learns and changes the game next year.

Nicholas Latifi (16e -> 16e) – 6/10 : First of all, it is important to salute the performance of Nicholas Latifi during qualifying. The Canadian broke the ice for the first time beating George Russell in the fast lap drill. But .. it stops there. The Williams driver lost the advantage from the start, and was unable to set the same pace as his teammate.

Nikita Mazepin (19e -> 17e) – 5/10 : The Russian is not making waves this weekend. Once again transparent, Nikita Mazepin is making his way at Interlagos and even takes advantage of his teammate’s incident to end his weekend in front of him.

Mick Schumacher (18e -> 18e) – 4/10 : The defending Formula 2 champion once again dominated his teammate on a Grand Prix weekend. But Mick Schumacher stupidly came to hang on to the first corner with Kimi Räikkönen’s car. Result, the German destroys his fin and his race in passing.

Daniel Ricciardo (11e -> DNF) – 5/10 : The Australian was unlucky in this Brazilian weekend. After starting in 11th position, the McLaren driver took off cleanly and managed to gain many positions. He exits 9th from the 4th corner. Subsequently he overtook Sebastian Vettel in the pitstop game like the Alpine and remained in 8th position. Daniel Ricciardo is a victim of his mechanics and must resolve to give up. A weekend therefore threw in the trash for the Woking stable in its fight with the Scuderia.

Lance Stroll (14e -> DNF) – 4/10 : The frustration of this season missed by Aston Martin accumulates and is felt in the green garage. Lance Stroll, follower of good starts, managed to glean 2 places at the start. But he was quickly caught up by the poor performance of his car. The Canadian still tries to hold his position but Yuki Tsunoda decides otherwise and sprays his front wing on the number 18 car. The Aston Martin driver tries to survive with the damage suffered, but they are too important. He resolves to give up.
