During its big launch ceremony in Europe, Nio had shown a desire to offer its models only for rental. Faced with criticism, the Chinese manufacturer now offers to buy the ET5, ET7 and EL7. But it still relies on the principle of battery rental.
For its entry into Europe, Nio intended to play the card of an all-inclusive subscription formula. A choice that goes in the direction of the orientations of the brand, whose economic model is largely based on services (battery rental, battery exchange, driving aids on demand, etc.). Obviously, the offer did not convince. Critics have been heard, and Nio is reviewing his copy. The subscription formula remains available, but the ET5, ET7 and EL7 are now offered as a full purchase in the countries where the brand is present. This is not yet the case in France, so the prices mentioned below are those practiced in Germany.
Purchase of the car, rental or purchase of the battery
For the three models, Nio has provided two purchase formulas. The first is the one that the manufacturer intends to favor, with a battery rental. What the manufacturer calls BaaS (Battery as a Service). This reduces the purchase price, but above all it gives access to the battery exchange service. The network is still embryonic in Europe, but should grow rapidly since Nio expects to have nearly 1,000 stations on our continent in three years (there are more than 1,200 in China).
With this service, the price of the ET5 is set at €49,900, that of the ET7 at €69,900 and the EL7 is displayed at €73,900. An identical price whether you choose the 75 or 100 kWh battery. On the other hand, it will be necessary to pay a monthly subscription, of 169 or 289 € according to the size of the battery precisely. Knowing that you can also switch from one to the other according to your needs by passing through an exchange station…
For customers who do not want to take advantage of the exchange service, the models are sold for an additional €12,000 for the 75 kWh battery, or €21,000 for the larger 100 kWh battery. Either from €61,900 for the ET7, €81,900 for the ET7 and €85,900 for the EL7.
