Nio intends to establish itself permanently in Europe. The most obvious proof is the upcoming arrival of an estate version of the ET5, which has just been surprised on the roads.
Last May, we talked about the Nio launch plan, with three new features planned for 2023. Alongside the evolution of the EC6 and ES8 SUVs, a 5-door version of the ET5 was announced. A model clearly dedicated to Europe. And the discovery of the first prototypes confirms this orientation. Because if we hesitated last spring between hatchback or station wagon, it is now very clearly a station wagon. And where are 90% of station wagons on the planet sold? In Europe…
It was on the Chinese social network Weibo that a user posted a video of this prototype. Its heavy camouflage hides the rear part, but the front part remains identifiable as being a Nio ET5. Obviously, you should not expect to discover a load break capable of competing with the luggage compartments of the Volkswagen Passat or Skoda Superb. Above all, it intends to compete with premium station wagons, for which gross volume is not necessarily the most important criterion. The rear overhang should not change significantly compared to the sedan.
Intended mainly for Europe, this station wagon may not be sold in China, even if it will be produced there. While the RV market is growing in China, it doesn’t seem to be station wagons.
