The seventh Polestar could be the first assembly in Europe
ADVERTISEMENT

While Polestar produces primarily in China, its boss wants to assemble a model in Europe. Logically in a Volvo factory.

Polestar is a Swedish brand, founded by Volvo and the owner of the latter, the Chinese Geely. And it is precisely in China that the production of the Polestar is done. The 100,000th Polestar 2 sedan has just come out of the Luqiao chains. In 2023, the Chengu site will begin assembly of the Polestar 3 SUV.

In 2024, this one must also be built in the American factory of Volvo, in Ridgeville (South Carolina). It will therefore be the first unassembled Polestar in China. But the rest of the program will again be Chinese, since it is in the Middle Kingdom that the 4 (a coupe SUV), 5 (a GT-type sedan) and 6 (a roadster) will be assembled.

Thomas Ingenlath, boss of Polestar, however, would also like production in Europe. He indicated that this could occur at the time of the launch of the Polestar 7. He himself mentioned this model until now unknown… and of which he does not specify the silhouette.

If Thomas Ingenlath points out that production on the Old Continent is important for Polestar, the 7 could therefore be a model more suited to our tastes. So we first imagine a compact SUV! Polestar does not however intend to add a factory in Europe and would logically occupy one of Volvo’s sites. Currently, the parent company has a factory in Sweden and one in Belgium. It recently announced the construction of an additional European site in Slovakia.

Thomas Ingenlath indicates that it is up to Volvo to decide where this Polestar 7 can be assembled. But given the brand’s already busy schedule, the 6 being planned for 2026, the 7 is not expected before 2026/ 2027.
