According to Reuters news, Tesla is preparing an update to the Model 3, which should help simplify its production… and hopefully bring down prices.
The Model Y has become Tesla’s bestseller, but the American firm has not forgotten the Model 3. According to Reuters, an update to the sedan is in the works. The economic media is based on the information given by four people close to the project, a project which would be named internally “Highland”.
Reuters indicates that the evolution aims in particular to reduce the number of components of the vehicle. Assembly will also benefit from new industrial tools such as “giga-presses”. Tesla thus wishes to simplify the production of the 3, in order to lower production costs.
This has two advantages: improving the profitability of the vehicle and being able to lower prices. This overhaul also seems to be in response to the arrival of new, increasingly sharp competitors, particularly in the Chinese market, with for example in this country the BYD Seal.

The aesthetic overhaul could be light, in the manner of what was done recently with the Model S. This one had especially revised its interior. But that of the 3 is already quite simplified! Tesla should review the screen and install the aviation type steering wheel inaugurated by the big sister.
These aesthetic developments will reinforce the “new” side of the car, which has already undergone technical improvements since its appearance, particularly in terms of battery. Changes can obviously take place on the technique on the occasion of this restyling, even if Tesla is rather discreet at this level!
According to Reuters sources, the production of this 3 “Highland” should start in the Shanghai factory during the third quarter of 2023.
