Fisker looking for a factory in Europe to produce its compact electric Pear

The Ocean SUV is produced by Magna in Austria, and the Pear will be produced in the United States by Foxconn. But a new European factory is now planned to produce the compact Pear.

To restart its activity after a resounding bankruptcy in 2014, Fisker relied above all on partners. Including for production: this greatly reduces the necessary investments. But in his choices, let’s admit that Fisker lacked foresight. Its large SUV is thus produced in Europe, at Magna, while the model will be more suitable for the American market. And its compact, which would seem more European, is on the contrary planned for production in North America at Foxconn.

Fisker is however not clinging to the solution of production with partners, especially useful in the start-up phase of the activity. Faced with new tax rules in the United States, we already know that a factory is planned for the Ocean. And the manufacturer is also looking for a solution to produce the Pear in Europe.

For the moment, nothing is really decided, except the exclusion of the United Kingdom. Several countries are envisaged, even if some seem to leave with a handicap from the point of view of Henrik Fisker. According to an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt, an establishment in Eastern Europe, which is nevertheless rich in car factories, would require the training of teams, whereas Western countries would offer a more qualified workforce. As for Germany, energy costs there are currently prohibitive.

New plant or takeover of an existing site? Everything is open on this point.
