GM has confirmed the launch of 15 electric models in China in the next 3 years. And in this number, there will be a large high-end electric minivan to oversee the range of the Buick GL8.

The Buick GL8 is one of the American brand’s flagship models in China, and probably one of GM’s most profitable. It has dominated the large MPV market for years. To resist the onslaught of competitors, mainly Chinese, it continues to move upmarket over the generations. A headlong rush that could turn out to be in vain.

Like the entire market, that of the large minivan has begun its shift towards electric. And there, Buick is no longer the precursor. He is preceded by Roewe (SAIC), Voyah (Dongfeng), Zeekr (Geely), Denza (BYD). Luckily, start-ups like Nio have not yet tackled this segment…

The Buick GL8 is therefore clearly one of GM’s electrification priorities. An electric GL8 features prominently in the program. It will be based on the Ultium platform. Mark Reuss has also confirmed that the brand’s next electric flagship will not fit into the Electra range…

In terms of luxury and comfort, it will have to do at least as well as the very last GL8 Century, which was prefigured in 2021 by the GL8 Flagship concept presented in the photos below. However, it will remain reserved for the Chinese market only.
