Éric, a motorist from Reims, experienced a funny misadventure a few weeks ago. This Monday, November 21, the man in his fifties leads his mother, aged “soon to be 86 years old (…) at the medical office on boulevard Jules César” of Reims (Champagne-Ardenne), he says for the daily L‘Union. An innocuous journey, until a police officer verbalizes itas he says:
“I drove her [sa mère, Ndlr] there with my car. Everything went well. But after having left it, a few tens of meters further, I was stopped on the boulevard by a policeman who pointed out to me that I was in the wrong direction! »
Eric admits indeed not having seen the sign stipulating the forbidden direction. It is therefore a fine of 135 euros and a withdrawal of four points on the license who threatens him, after this careless mistake. So far, nothing abnormal, it happens to thousands of French motorists every year.
An order saves Eric from a fine
The reversal of the situation then occurs. Indeed, under the no entry sign is a statement stating that it does not concern buses or residents. What the panel does not specify is that motorists dropping off someone at the local doctor’s office can also borrow it. This by virtue of an order issued on January 28, 2021.
The policeman’s fine is therefore not not admissible, under these conditions. Funny situation, for someone supposed to represent the law. A person in charge of the roads department advised Éric to present the decree in question to the police services, in order to stop the infringement procedure. It remains to be hoped that other motorists will not be caught in a similar case.
