But if it is possible to assess the number of kilometers that can be covered in a single charge during the homologation of the vehicle, this data remains however subject to many parameters. These include driving style, use of equipment and even the outside temperature.
It is precisely the latter that interests us today, while the site CarInsurance, specializing in auto insurance, carried out a vast survey on the subject. The company therefore decided to see to what extent cold and heat influence the range of a vehicle, namely a Tesla Model 3. To carry out this study, CarInsurance therefore chose a list of the most populated cities in the world. world, and are based on their average temperature over the year. Then, the people in charge of this project used a simulator of autonomy according to the temperature to establish a classification of the various places. In a table, the insurance comparator then indicated the average vehicle range in each city, as well as the highest mileage that can be traveled by the American sedan.
More than 70 kilometers of difference
If you are interested in electric cars, then you will not be surprised to find that the coldest cities have the lowest range. With just 374 kilometers that can be covered in a single charge, that’s why Reykjavik, in Iceland, which is the city least suited to electric cars. No wonder, when you know that the average temperature does not exceed 4.3 degrees. The Icelandic capital is then tied with its neighbor Kópavogur, and is followed by Tartu, in Estonia. With an average annual temperature of only 6.4 °, a Tesla Model 3 can travel approximately 389 kilometers on a single charge. If you are planning to take a road trip, then it is Sydney that you will have to go, to really be able to take advantage of the capabilities of the car. There, you can then travel up to 450 kilometers on average, thanks to an annual temperature set at 18 °. If we compare the values of Reykjavik and Sydney, we therefore see a difference of 76 kilometers. As a reminder, the standard Tesla Model 3 in its Standard Autonomy Plus version promises to be able to travel 448 kilometers in one go.
