The principle of positive toll mocked by elected officials in Lille

The positive toll project of the Lille metropolis is not unanimous among elected officials. The fault with a principle perhaps simplistic and uncertain advantages.

The positive toll project of the Lille metropolis not unanimous, it is little to say. While elected officials are talking about this project to relieve congestion on the roads allowing access to or exit from Lille and wish to set it up, others are more circumspect.

The idea is indeed based on a somewhat naive principle. The one that motorists would choose to get into traffic jams on the axes covered by this toll. And that they would have the way to do otherwise, for a maximum of 80 euros per month. Which does not appeal to Rudy Elegeest, the president of APM (Actions and Projects for the Metropolis), for example. Evidenced by his remarks on this subject, reported by The voice of the North :

“This is based on a very curious idea, that motorists throw themselves into the hell of the A1 already having the possibility of doing otherwise, and that financial stimulation could encourage them to change. »

Even environmentalists remain cautious on this subject

The cost of the operation is estimated at 11 million euros. This for uncertain gains. So much so that even the environmental opposition group (MECS) wants to be cautious. One of its representatives, Mélissa Camara, points out “a hypothetical result”.

It should be remembered that the Lille metropolitan area’s positive toll project is to encourage motorists to use certain roads less during rush hour. This would concern for the moment the A1 (Paris-Lille) and the A23 (Valenciennes-Paris). An extension on the A25, the RN41 or the A22 would eventually be possible. the whole between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the evening.

Drivers would be rewarded with two euros per journey avoided, i.e. four euros per day. All for one maximum of 80 euros per month. A call for applications will be launched in the spring. Sébastien Leprêtre, vice-president of transport for the metropolis, intends remove 750 vehicles from these axes in the morning and evening :

“If we achieve this, we can consider that we have achieved our goal. »
