New to Ferrari’s Icona range, the Daytona SP3 is inspired by the 1960s. It features an atmospheric V12 developing 840 hp and 697 Nm of torque.
During the Ferrari Finali Mondiali, which took place on November 20 on the Mugello circuit (Italy), the Prancing Horse unveiled a new addition to its Icona range. Launched with the Monza SP1 and SP2 trays in 2018, this series of limited models is a nod to the past. This time, Ferrari pays homage to the racing prototypes of the 1960s.
Retro inspirations
In the first place, the name Daytona SP3 evokes Ferrari’s hat-trick at the 24 Hours of Daytona on February 6, 1967. On Ford’s playing field, the Italian indeed won with three vehicles on the podium: a 330 P3 / 4 in first place, followed by a 330 P4 and a 412 P. The wings and the mirrors placed on them, the windshield very enveloping in the manner of a bubble or the streaks at the front and at the rear are in part reminiscent of the three cars that won the podium.
But we don’t fall for the neo-retro either, and the inspiration is very modern with extremely thin LED headlights, topped by a small mobile panel evoking the pop-up headlights of the brand’s former glories. The very square and massive rear has a touch of Testarossa. The car also has a Targa roof to ride with your hair in the wind during walks or to favor performance in the closed version.
The V12 goes to 840 hp
Because there are horses under the hood! Like a good Ferrari, the Daytona SP3 adopts an atmospheric V12. It takes over the 6.5 of the 812 Competizione, which increases to 840 hp (+ 10 hp) and becomes the brand’s most powerful internal combustion unit. Placed in the rear central position, the engine develops 697 Nm of torque, and can climb up to 9,500 rpm. Ferrari thus promises a 0 to 100 km / h in 2.85 s, and 7.4 s only to reach the 200 km / h mark. Mind-blowing!
On board, the seats are directly integrated into the chassis to save weight (1,485 kg empty). The driver will therefore have to adjust the pedal rather than the seat. Composite materials and carbon are also used, as well as Kevlar for areas subject to impact. The interior is covered in electric blue. Behind the wheel, a large 16-inch HD curved screen displays driving information.
599 copies only
Ferrari announces that the Daytona SP3 will be limited to just 599 units. They are probably all already sold. The price of exclusivity? 2 million euros, at the very least.
