After the Plaids, Tesla opens orders for the restyled Dual Motor Model S and Model X. Less powerful, these versions have more autonomy.
The Model S and Model X go down in range. Tesla had launched the career of the restyled versions with the delirious technical configuration Plaid, which combines three motors for a maximum cumulative power of 1020 hp. While Plaid deliveries have just started in France, Tesla is opening orders for a more affordable version of its large sedan and large SUV.
This is the Dual Motor version, therefore with two permanent magnet motors, which make it possible to have all-wheel drive. If the power drops to 670 hp, the performance remains breathtaking. The Model S Dual Motor goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. It takes 3.9 seconds for the Model X.
The advantage of a power in decline is to have more autonomy. According to the WLTP cycle, the sedan promises 632 km of autonomy, against 600 km in Plaid. With the Model X, with less favorable aerodynamics, the autonomy is 576 km, against 543 km in Plaid.
It is recalled that these two vehicles benefited from slight aesthetic changes on the outside. At the rear, the Tesla monogram replaces the T logo. It is especially inside that this has changed, with a new dashboard, inspired by that of the Model 3, with a large landscape format touch screen in the center . These models innovated with their futuristic steering wheel called “Yoke”.
But Tesla says customers can now have a more classic round steering wheel as a free option. This steering wheel is also available as an accessory for post-delivery modification.
With the Dual Motor, the price drops. For the Model S, it is €113,990 (compared to €138,990 in Plaid). With the Model X, it’s €121,990 (and €141,990 in Plaid).
