The low emission zone (ZFE) of Toulon should finally be put into effect from next April. Its scope and exemptions are still under discussion.
The timetable for the implementation of the Toulon low-emissions zone is finally known. The metropolis has confirmed that its introduction should take place from April next. Further announcements are expected to be made in February.
Deliberations are also planned in March for the Toulon-Provence-Mediterranean Metropolis. The scope of this measure is still debated. It should only concern part of intramural Toulon. Derogations are also at the center of the debates, at present. Valérie Paecht, director general of the services of the Toulon-Provence-Méditerranée Metropolis, details this for Var-Matin:
“We will be 3-4 months late. “The goal is to” impact as few people as possible, who do not have the possibility of changing vehicles. We’re not here to bother them. Moreover, we are also working on the assistance to be provided to these people. »
The Toulon ZFE was to come into force on January 1, 2023
Indeed, the low-emissions zone of the Toulon metropolis was initially to be effective January 1. But until that date, the authorities had taken their time, without giving further details. Until this date has passed, without the measure being put in place.
The president of the metropolis, Hubert Falco, was initially in favor of extending the deadline to 2024 or 2025. This is so as not to penalize the most modest inhabitants, who will suffer from this decision. He also mentioned this subject on Twitter, on December 30:
“We are continuing our exchanges with the State because that is precisely what we want to avoid (discrimination for citizens, Editor’s note), even if the very establishment of an EPZ is a legal obligation and we we cannot in-fine derogate from it. »
This is indeed why we are continuing our exchanges with the State, because this is precisely what we want to avoid, even if the very establishment of an EPZ is a legal obligation and we cannot – fine to deviate from it.

Remember that Low Emission Zones have been set up in agglomerations of more than 150,000 inhabitants. What will concern 45 areas in France by 2025. Their aim is to restrict traffic to vehicles considered to be the most polluting, in order to improve air quality.
