The CGT oil unions are calling for a strike on January 19 and 26, against the government’s pension reform project.

Will the nightmare of fuel shortages soon become real again? The CGT oil unions are in any case calling for a strike on January 19 and 26. This in order to fight against the pension reform projectpresented Tuesday, January 10 and which will be debated in the coming weeks in the National Assembly.

The strike call is coupled with a request, if necessary, to « shutdown of refining facilities« according to a press release issued on Thursday by Eric Sellini, national coordinator of the union for TotalEnergies. “decreases in flow” et “stop shipping”, Eric Sellini told AFP. Here are some more details from that press release:

“The CGT unions of the Oil branch met on January 11, 2023 in Montreuil (…) The process of struggle adopted by all the unions and concerning all the production, distribution and administrative staff sites is as follows.

  • Call for a 24-hour strike on January 19, 2023

  • Call for a 48-hour strike, January 26, 2023

  • Call for a 72-hour strike on February 8, 2023, the date on which employees will be offered a renewable strike with, if necessary, the shutdown of the refining facilities

Oil workers will be present in the struggle (…) On this mass uprising will depend the consequences of the movement in refining which will take into account the level of mobilization but will not engage in a proxy strike. »

The unions do not want to let the state do its thing

A call that is reminiscent those launched at the end of September. The refineries were shut down, the deposits blocked. This led to many shortages for motorists in France. In front of this situation, employees had been requisitioned by the State. A situation already planned by the unions, who intend to oppose it:

“Finally, we call for collective attention to the reaction of the State: in the event of the announcement of requisitions, we call on all workers to converge on oil sites to defend the right to strike and to fight all together. No to forced labour! »
