C5 X restyled, MX-30 with rotary engine, Mégane RS Ultime… the novelties and scoops of the week

Very, very busy news on the auto planet this week. Chances are you actually missed an episode. No worries, here’s the weekly recap!

The holidays are definitely over, the year 2023 is well under way, the automotive news is back on track. This weekend, it’s the car shows that are talking about them. Starting with that of Brussels, decidedly more and more important for car manufacturers who no longer hesitate to present new products. This is the case, for example, of Mazda, which unveils its MX-30 with range extender. Two other events are taking place in Asia right now, the New Delhi and Tokyo shows. Suzuki took advantage of the first of them to present a zero-emission concept and two new vehicles and Renault of the second to unveil a final version of the Mégane RS. We will come back to it. This is without counting on two major leaks concerning Mercedes and MG as well as the many scoops of our illustrator. Ready, set, go !

BMW: full of novelties in 2023

The new year will be particularly busy for the manufacturer at the Propeller. Most of the novelties will be restyled versions of models already on the market. But on the Series 1, the brush stroke could be quite substantial, especially in the passenger compartment where we expect to find a curved digital panel like on most of the latest productions. The X2 will give way to a whole new generation. And it should look like a reduced X4 this time around with a much more pronounced drop in the roof. More anecdotal, except for performance enthusiasts, the M3 will want to be even crazier with its bestial CS version.

Citroën C5 X restyled

Within the Stellantis galaxy, the role of the Chevron brand is similar to that of Fiat, namely to offer essential vehicles at low prices. The recent Oli concept that you may have seen at the last Paris Motor Show is a pretty good illustration of what to expect. To put it simply, Citroën should look more and more like Dacia. In fact, a relatively obvious question arises: what place for a large model like the C5 X in the future?

Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV

Mazda does not like to do like everyone else. So, to relaunch the career of its very first electric model, the atypical MX-30 SUV, it decided to bring out of the closet a technology that we simply never thought we would see again since the no less original RX-8 left. retired. Connoisseurs know very well what we are talking about, it is the rotary engine. Except that, crazier still, it serves here as a heat generator to accompany the electric motor, making this new version an unusual rechargeable hybrid variant.

New Mercedes-AMG GT

We thought we’d discover it later in the year but, bad luck for Mercedes, the design of the second vintage of AMG GT has already leaked on the net. But there is one thing that will not surprise: its look. As we suspected, it will be neither more nor less than a cut variant of the last SL. Take the roadster, add a hardtop and you get this new model.

MG Cyberster

Another model that shows a little (even a lot!) In advance, and we expected it less for once, the future electric roadster from MG. Nothing says that it will take the name of the concept from which it is inspired, but if that is the case, it will be called Cyberster. Even more than the exterior design, it is its interior that we were able to discover in the photos that are currently circulating. For the simple and good reason that the camouflages are less present there. And as much to say bluntly that the Cyberster will amaze with its interior!

Restyled Peugeot Expert

Do you find that it is difficult to distinguish the Peugeot Expert from its twins the Citroën Jumpy, Fiat Scudo and Opel Vivaro? Wait to discover the restyled model which should gain in character with a wider grille, the new logo in its center as well as headlights with claws, as on the 308 and 408.

Electric Renault 5

When we know that a simple Dacia Spring today costs more than €20,000 minimum, it is hard to believe that Renault will be able to succeed in its bet which was to offer the standard electric Renault 5, planned for the next year, for the same price. According to our estimates, it should be more around 30,000 €, not much less than the Zoé that it will also replace. Obviously, the look of the production model will be simpler than that of the concept car.

And precisely, the standard Renault 5 should look like this:

Renault Megane RS Ultimate

No offense to fans, the Mégane RS won’t be long. The castrator penalty will have put an end to the career of the one who was the very last French sports compact sedan. Before retiring, it offered itself a very soberly baptized Mégane RS Ultime version limited to 1,976 numbered copies. 1976, you may have guessed it, is the date on which the Renault Sport label was born. Too bad, we could have imagined that it would be a bit more powerful, than nay. Under the hood, it relies on the same 1.8 turbo of 300 hp and 420 Nm of torque as the other top Méganes…

Suzuki eVX and Jimny 5-port

And we end this tour of automotive news with a Japanese manufacturer that you know well. A very fit Suzuki who has decided to take advantage of the New Delhi Motor Show to unveil a good amount of new features. We will especially remember the long-awaited 5-door version of the adventurer Jimny… which will never land with us, too bad for those who were waiting for it. And to this is added a very important concept since it “fuels” electricity, the eVX. To date, the Japanese brand still does not offer any zero-emission vehicle in its range. However, we will have to be patient since it should not lead to a production model until… 2025!
