The perfect electric car and small and pragmatic. This is what the Tango T600 wanted to be, except for one –powerful- detail!
If all segments electrify en masse, the perfect electric car would take the form of a small city car, pragmatic and sufficient. In addition to participating in the reduction of polluting emissions in the city where the majority of trips are made, it would respond to mobility problems. This is what the Citroën Ami, Dacia Spring or Renault Twizy want to be, for example. This is also what the Tango T600 wanted to bring long before them. But its definition of “sufficient” is far removed from the one we know, as presented by the Donut Media channel.
Unknown to the battalion, the Tango T600 is a frail city car designed by Commuter Cars in 2005. At the time, the manufacturer already knew that the solution was to reduce the volume of cars to solve traffic and parking problems. Thus was born the T600, 2.57 m long and 99 cm wide, with a stability diametrically opposed to what its look suggests.
Two electric motors for a power of 816 hp
But the technical sheet presented on the manufacturer’s website smacks of April Fools. Underlined by quotes from Albert Einstein to better highlight all his genius, it presents qualifiers and numbers of sportswomen. And for good reason: this motorized tandem has two electric machines for a total power of 816 hp for 1,400 Nm of torque! With 1,508 kg on the scale (it’s 50 kg more than a Peugeot e-208), it is capable of falling from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.2 s, the 400 m DA in 12.2 s and to pick up 283 km/h. It’s as good as a Ferrari F430 from the same era.
Under the tubular frame is a 10 kWh lead-acid battery that can provide a range of 64 km. As an option, a 49 kWh lithium-ion unit could increase the range to 240 km. Difficult to know the number of copies in circulation in the United States, but some sources suggest a production of just over 20 units. The Tango T600 was displayed starting at $240,000, and it would take more than $300,000 with options.
