Curiously enough, Buick chose the Electra 5, a very traditional SUV, to launch its new range of electric models. However, the Electra 4, a model a little more capable of modernizing its image, is also approaching.
In June 2022, Buick baited the barge with its Electra X concept, which announced a dynamic and streamlined electric crossover. What a disappointment to discover the first production model in the Electra family. The Electra E5 is indeed an ultra-classic SUV in its concept and design. Not really the revolution that the American brand needs to relaunch itself in a Chinese market that has become very complicated for foreign brands.
Fortunately, the second model looks a bit more modern. This Electra E4 is the direct heir to the concept. Perhaps it would have benefited from being presented first? It’s little more than just a “coupé” version of the E5. The base is the same with an identical wheelbase of 2954 mm, a length of 4818 mm (-74 mm) and a width of 1912 mm (+7 mm). It is indeed above all much lower with its 1580 mm. 75 mm less which makes all the difference in the general proportions which are more reminiscent of a high sedan than an SUV. The design itself could however, like that of the E5, belong to any brand. The disappearance of the chrome grille typical of the brand for decades does not help in identification.
For the moment, a 2WD version of 180 kW is announced. A 4-wheel drive version is also on the program. All information will be confirmed during its presentation in April at the Shanghai show.
