The Hyundai Ioniq 5 inherits a crab mode thanks to the Mobis branch of the Korean group. A concept reminiscent of the Hummer EV and the Mercedes EQG.
Hyundai Mobis is one of the branches of the Korean group which provides automotive parts and services. The firm works on innovations and concepts, both in terms of hardware and software.
The company has been working for several years on a concept called e-corner. This allows vehicles to roll sideways and perform 360 degrees on themselves.
The brand’s electric SUV, Ioniq 5, is the latest vehicle to receive this treatment. The model was seen in a video with the wheels turned 90 degrees. This allows it to crab, like SUVs can do this.
The best known of the electric vehicles with this system is the all-new Hummer EV. The American mastodon offers this functionality in its high-end version. The Mercedes EQG also benefits, and the Tesla Cybertruck could also receive it.
The e-corner modules combine wheel-specific steering, braking and suspension. The question now is when this system dating from 2018 will appear on production models.
