The small Nosmoke electric machine now belongs to the Kate brand. This manufacturer will soon launch a small city car focused on the essentials.
A new French car brand is born. Her name: Kate. However, this does not start from scratch. Created in 2022 by three entrepreneurs, including a former equipment manufacturer Valeo, Kate bought Nosmoke. The latter had been manufacturing an eponymous model since 2012, a revival of the Mini Moke of the sixties, but with an electric motor.
In about ten years, more than 1500 copies of this machine have been assembled in Cerizay, in Deux-Sèvres. Last year, Nosmoke sales accounted for four million euros in turnover. Kate therefore gets her hands on the industrial tool and “a line of income capable of partially financing future developments”.
While waiting for a new model, Kate takes over the Nosmoke, which becomes the Kate Original. The vehicle has undergone technical improvements. It now exists in three versions. The base Lite has a range of 100 km and is limited to 70 km/h. The Medium has a range of 160 km. And the new Extended version has a maximum speed of 90 km/h and an extended range of 220 km.
Order books are already open, with sales taking place online. Be careful, it will be difficult to choose the color, there is a wide choice! The base price is €24,990 and deliveries will begin in March. And Kate wants to quickly pass the second. The manufacturer released teasers of a new vehicle, named K1. It will be a mini-city car, which follows one principle: back to basics. We imagine that the model is electric.
In a statement, Matthias Goldenberg, Kate’s boss, said: We are firmly convinced that two-tonne SUVs, thermal or even electric, are not the future of everyday mobility. The car of tomorrow, that of everyday journeys, will be light, clean, sober […]. It is a solution to the decarbonization of the automotive industry, but what will make it successful will be first and foremost that it will be cheaper to produce, to use and to maintain than a traditional car..
Kate points out that daily mobility “represents 98% of French travel”, with journeys of less than 80 km. The K1 will therefore be able to meet this need, with a closed passenger compartment, a guarantee of safety. It should be presented this summer.
